Multiple thunder storms moved over the Douglas District Thursday, resulting in numerous lightning strikes. As of Thursday evening, four confirmed lightning fires have been located on DFPA protected lands.
Kelly Creek Fire: The Kelly Creek Fire was located seven miles northeast of Glide. Crews have a fire line around the Kelly Creek Fire and have mopped up the fire. The Kelly Creek Fire burned 1/4 acre.
Bullock #1 Fire & Bullock #2 Fire: The Bullock #1 Fire and Bullock #2 Fire are located seven miles east of Tiller. Crews are currently working to suppress the two fires, which are within about 1/3 mile of each other. The larger of the two fires is estimated to be 1/2 acre in size. Crews will remain on scene and engaged on both fires overnight.
Green Mountain Fire: The Green Mountain Fire, located five miles southeast of Azalea burned 1/10th acre. Crews have completed lines around the fire and have mopped it up.
DFPA assisted the Southwest Oregon ODF District with two fires located near the Douglas County and Josephine County line. The Tunnel Road Fire, located 2 miles south of Glendale burned 1/4 acre and has been lined and mopped up. Crews are currently working on the Riffle Creek Fire, located 11 miles west of Glendale. The Riffle Creek Fire is estimated to be 1/10 acre in size and crews are engaged on the fire.
Sam Creek Fire: Crews from DFPA, Tiller Rural Fire Department, and the Umpqua National Forest responded to a natural cover fire eight miles northeast of Tiller, near Sam Creek. The Sam Creek Fire burned about 1/2 acre. One structure was threatened by the fire but no damage was reported. Crews will remain on scene of the Sam Creek Fire overnight, mopping up hot spots and securing control lines. A preliminary fire investigation indicated that the Sam Creek Fire was powerline related.
