Melrose Heights Fire

A bird in the powerlines sparked a grass fire Thursday afternoon, located about six miles west

of Roseburg. Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Douglas County Fire District #2, and Lookingglass Rural Fire Department were dispatched to the fire near Melrose Heights Lane at approximately 11:45 a.m. The first fire unit to arrive on scene reported that the fire was approximately one acre in size and was moving fast through light, flashy fuels. An aggressive initial attack stopped the fast moving fire at approximately five and a half acres of grass. Crews remained on scene of the fire until 2:30 p.m., mopping up hot spots and securing control lines.

No homes were threatened by the fire and no injuries were reported. A total of eight engines, two water tenders, and a helicopter worked on the Melrose Heights Fire.
