Mehl Creek Fire
Wednesday 9AM Update
Firefighters assigned to the Mehl Creek Fire made good progress overnight, working to contain the blaze. Bull dozers and hand crews working on the incident completed fire lines around approximately 80% of the fire overnight and started installing hose around the perimeter of the fire. The Mehl Creek Fire is currently 50% contained and burning on very steep terrain about three miles southwest of Elkton.
Today, 115 firefighters, four water tenders, and two bull dozers are assigned to the incident. A fixed wing recension aircraft and two helicopters are also assigned to the fire. Crews will be working to complete fire lines around the northern portion of the fire today in addition to holding and improving existing fire lines around the remainder of the fire.
Currently, there are no homes threatened by the Mehl Creek Fire and no evacuation orders have been issued. Residents in the area are advised to stay informed about the fire as conditions can change rapidly during wildfire situations.
DFPA is being assisted on this incident by resources and personnel from local rural fire departments, the Coos Forest Protective Association, the Oregon Department of Forestry, industrial landowners, and contract resources.
The cause of the Mehl Creek Fire is currently under investigation.
