Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Riddle Rural Fire Department, Tri-City Rural Fire Department, Canyonville – South Umpqua Fire Department, and Myrtle Creek Rural Fire Department responded to a natural cover fire Friday afternoon, three miles southwest of Riddle, near the 3,000 block of Glenbrook Loop Road. Firefighters arrived on scene of the Glenbrook Loop Fire around 4:15 p.m. and found a half acre fire that was burning on both sides of the road that was being pushed by the wind. A helicopter was used to slow the fires spread while multiple firefighters and a bull dozer worked their way around the perimeter of the blaze, creating fire lines and installing hose lays. Crews remained on scene of the Glenbrook Loop Fire until around 10:00 pm, mopping up hot spots.
The Glenbrook Loop Fire burned a total of two acres of grass and brush. Several outbuildings were threatened by the fire but no damage was reported. A preliminary fire investigation indicated that the Glenbrook Loop Fire was powerline related.
