Since the official start of fire season, the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), has engaged on 5 separate fires throughout the district.
1. DAYS CREEK BRIDGE FIRE. CANYONVILLE, ORE.
On May 30, 2026, at approximately 6 pm, crews from DFPA and Days Creek Rural Fire Department, Canyonville South Umpqua Fire District, and Milo Rural Fire Protection District were dispatched to a reported natural cover fire near the Days Creek Bridge in the 10000 block of Tiller Trail Highway, in Canyonville, OR.
Upon arrival, crews found a 1/10-acre fire, which was quickly extinguished and mopped up.
2. MILL FIRE. MYRTLE CREEK, ORE:
On May 31, 2026, at approximately 2:25 pm, crews from DFPA, Central Douglas Fire and Rescue, and Lookingglass Rural Fire District were dispatched to a reported natural cover fire near the 10500 block of Old Highway 99 South in Myrtle Creek, OR.
Upon arrival, crews found a ½-acre grass and bark mulch fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and mopped up.
3. PHEASANT CREEK FIRE – 6.5 MILES WEST OF TYEE, ORE.
On June 2, 2026, at approximately 2:46 p.m., DFPA crews were dispatched to a reported industrial fire located approximately 6.5 miles west of Tyee, OR.
Upon arrival, crews found that the 1/100-acre fire had already been extinguished by industrial operators. DFPA personnel assisted with mop-up operations to ensure the area was fully secured.
4. LONGHORN LANE FIRE. ROSEBURG, ORE:
On June 2, 2026, at approximately 4:45 p.m., crews from DFPA, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, and Lookingglass Rural Fire District were dispatched to a reported grass fire near the 600 block of Longhorn Lane in Roseburg, OR.
Upon arrival, crews found a fully involved vehicle fire in a hayfield. The vehicle and ½ of an acre grass fire was extinguished quickly. While engaged in suppression efforts, the on scene DFPA Incident Commander observed a small smoke column near the ridgeline of the nearby Callahan Mountains.
5. DEVIL’S DEN FIRE – 1.5 MILES NORTHWEST OF LONGHORN LANE, ROSEBURG, ORE.
Immediately following containment of the Longhorn Lane Fire on June 2, 2026, DFPA crews responded to a confirmed ¼-acre fire near Callahan Road. The fire’s forward spread was quickly stopped, hand-lined, and 95% mopped up before crews safely left the incident for the night. DFPA crews returned this morning to complete mop-up operations. Minimal smoke may remain visible in the area as firefighters’ complete suppression efforts.
In addition to the five fires DFPA has engaged in since the start of fire season, crews have also responded to an estimated 15 illegal debris burns throughout the district. This serves as an important reminder that fire season is now in effect, debris burning is restricted, and increased caution with outdoor activities is critical to help prevent human-caused wildfires. As conditions continue to dry and fire danger increases, fire season restrictions are in place to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect lives, property, and natural resources. Residents are encouraged to use caution with outdoor activities, follow current fire season regulations, and report smoke or fire immediately by calling 9-1-1.
