Shortly after 5:00 AM Monday morning, the Douglas County 911 Communication Center received a report of a fire located 5 miles northwest of Sutherlin, near Dodge Creek and Highway 138 West. Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Sutherlin Fire Department, and Oakland Rural Fire Department responded to the fire and reported a 1-acre fire that was spreading up the hillside. Additional aviation and ground resources were requested to respond to the incident. By noon, crews had a wet line around the fire, stopping the forward spread at approximately three acres. A bulldozer and hand crews were used to construct containment lines around the incident. Crews will remain on scene of the fire throughout the day, mopping up hot spots.
The cause of the Dodge Creek Fire is currently under investigation and does not appear to be lightning related.
