DFPA NEWS RELEASE: DFPA's Weekend Fire Response

Bottle Creek Fire — Umpqua, Oregon

On August 30, 2026, at approximately 1:40 a.m., firefighters from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) and Central Douglas Fire & Rescue responded to a smoke investigation near the intersection of Tyee Access Road and Tyee Road in Umpqua, Oregon.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered two burning slash piles with fire spreading into the surrounding vegetation. The fire was estimated to be approximately one acre in size.

After several hours of firefighting efforts, crews successfully lined and plumbed the fire perimeter and transitioned into mop-up operations. The fire is currently 30% mopped up, with crews continuing to work in the area until the fire can be safely turned over to patrol status.

Smoke will remain visible in the area as firefighters continue mop-up operations over the next several days.

DFPA resources assigned to the incident include three engines, two squads, a ten-person crew, a dozer, overhead command staff, and a water tender.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No homes or structures are currently threatened by the fire.

Lookingglass Creek Fire – Roseburg, Oregon

On August 30, 2026, at approximately 2:02 p.m., crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Lookingglass Rural Fire District, and Tenmile Rural Fire District responded to a reported natural cover fire near the 10060 block of Lookingglass Road in Roseburg, Oregon.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a grass fire burning across approximately one-quarter of an acre. Crews took immediate action and quickly stopped the forward spread of the fire.

DFPA resources assigned to the incident included four engines and overhead command staff. Firefighters completed mop-up operations and cleared the scene at approximately 4:10 p.m.

The fire is now in patrol status and will receive three consecutive heat and smoke checks before it is considered contained.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No homes or structures were threatened by the fire.
