For Immediate Release: 10/19/26

ROSEBURG, Ore: Although some counties in Oregon have officially ended fire season, restrictions remain in effect on lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA). Fire season decisions are based on local weather, fire danger, and fuel conditions, which can vary significantly across the state.

While temperatures are beginning to lower, several weeks of above normal temperatures have contributed to drying vegetation throughout the Douglas District. Substantial rainfall is needed to increase moisture levels in larger fuels, including trees and other woody vegetation, and reduce fire danger in higher elevation areas where fuels may remain dry. DFPA continues to monitor local conditions to determine when fire season can safely end.

Recent fires serve as a reminder that wildfire risk remains in the Douglas District.

Canyonville Park Road Fire | Canyonville

On Saturday, October 17, 2026, at approximately 4:38 p.m., DFPA, Riddle Fire Protection District, Canyonville South Umpqua Fire District, and Tri City Rural Fire Protection District responded to a 1.75-acre vegetation fire near the 300 block of Canyonville Park Road. Firefighters extinguished the fire and mop up operations were completed on October 18. The fire remains in patrol status, and its human related cause is under active investigation.

Coos Bay Wagon Road Fire | Roseburg

Earlier that morning, at approximately 8:58 a.m., DFPA and Lookingglass Rural Fire District responded to a 0.10-acre vegetation fire in the 1700 block of Coos Bay Wagon Road. Firefighters extinguished the fire, completed mop up operations, and placed the fire in patrol status.

Fire season restrictions, including the restriction on debris burning, remain in effect on lands protected by DFPA. Residents and visitors are urged to follow all applicable restrictions and use caution with activities that could start wildfire.

DFPA appreciates the public’s continued diligence and cooperation as the association monitors conditions throughout the district.
