Deer Hollow Fire 7-7-19

Firefighters from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, North Douglas County Fire & EMS and Oakland Rural Fire Department responded to a barn fire Sunday evening near Rice Hill. Crews arrived on scene of the fire shortly after 6:00 pm and found a fully involved barn on fire that had already spread to the surrounding vegetation, located off of Deer Hollow Lane. Structural firefighters from North Douglas and Oakland worked to contain the barn fire while crews from DFPA suppressed the wildland fire.

The Deer Hollow Fire destroyed one barn, damaged an adjacent outbuilding, threatened a home and burned about 1/10th of an acre of surrounding vegetation. While a preliminary fire investigation indicated that the Deer Hollow Fire started in the barn and spread to the adjacent wildland fuels, the specific cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire agencies on scene were assisted by the Douglas Electric Cooperative and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
