Hay Days Fire

Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Days Creek Rural Fire Department, Milo

Rural Fire Department and Canyonville – South Umpqua Fire Department responded to a grass fire Thursday afternoon near the 9,000 block of Tiller – Trail Highway. Firefighters located the

fire shortly after 12:30 p.m. burning in a hay field south of the highway. Crews stopped the Hay Days Fire at a quarter acre of grass and remained on scene for about a half hour to mop up hot spots. A preliminary investigation indicated that the cause of the fire was related to an electrical short on an irrigation system.



Beals Creek Fire

Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Canyonville – South Umpqua Fire

Department responded to a natural cover fire three miles east of Canyonville, Thursday evening. Firefighters located the fire off of Beals Creek Road, shortly after 8:30 p.m. and attacked the blaze. The Beals Creek Fire burned approximately 1/2 acre of grass and brush before firefighters stopped the forward spread of the fire. Crews will remain on scene of the fire overnight, mopping up hot spots and securing control lines. The cause of the Beals Creek Fire is currently under investigation.
