Turkey Hill Fire – June 21, 2026

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on June 21, 2026, the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), in cooperation with local, county, and state partners, responded to a grass fire near Interstate 5 southbound at milepost 144 near Oakland, Ore. The fire was officially named the Turkey Hill Fire and was contained at 10.9 acres.

Firefighters conducted an aggressive initial attack with six engines, one dozer, a 10-person firefighting module, and aerial resources, including an Air Attack platform and a helicopter. The forward spread of the fire was quickly stopped, aerial resources were released as suppression efforts progressed, and firefighters completed 100% fireline construction before transitioning to mop-up operations.

A temporary single-lane closure on Interstate 5 southbound was implemented to support firefighting operations and was fully reopened later that evening. No evacuations were issued, no structures were threatened, and the cause of the fire remained under investigation.
