DFPA NEWS RELEASE: Five Small Fires Quickly Contained Near Riddle

RIDDLE, Ore: At approximately 8:30 a.m. on July 30, 2026, firefighters from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Riddle Fire Protection District, Canyonville-South Umpqua Fire District, Tri City Rural Fire Protection District, and Cow Creek Tribal Fire Management responded to reports of five small vegetation fires in the Riddle area.

The first fire was reported near the intersection of Pruner Road and Boyer Road in Riddle, Oregon. As firefighters responded, additional reports of nearby fires were along the roadway. Crews quickly located all five fires and initiated suppression actions.

Thanks to the rapid response and coordinated efforts of responding agencies, all five fires were quickly extinguished, preventing further spread and minimizing impacts to the surrounding area. All five fires are currently in mop-up status.

Preliminary findings indicate that the cause of each of the five fires was vehicle related. Investigators will continue conducting a detailed investigation to determine the specific details surrounding each ignition.

With warm temperatures, dry vegetation, and elevated fire danger across the district, DFPA reminds the public that even small roadside ignitions can quickly become fast-moving wildfires. Motorists are encouraged to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained to reduce the risk of starting a wildfire. Never park or drive through dry vegetation, and when towing a trailer, make sure safety chains are properly secured and not dragging. If you see smoke or fire, report it immediately by calling 9-1-1.

This will be the only information released by the Douglas Forest Protective Association regarding these fires.
