TREE IN POWER LINE SPARKS FIRE
August 14, 2007

A fire sparked by a person falling a tree into a power line between Drain and Elkton is out this evening after quick action taken by local fire crews.  The Douglas Forest Protective Association and fire departments from Elkton and North Douglas E.M.S. out of Drain responded to the fire at about 10:30 this morning. About 40 firefighters were assisted by two bulldozers, six engines and two helicopters to contain the fire to less than two acres.  Although between 700 and 1,000 homes lost power for about three and ½ hours during the incident, no homes were threatened by the fire.

Fire danger is high throughout Douglas County and fire officials advise residents to continue to exercise caution.  A Regulated Use Closure remains in effect, which restricts certain public activities in wildland areas.  Back yard burning, smoking and off-road driving is prohibited entirely and campfires are only allowed in designated campgrounds.  For a complete list of restrictions, call DFPA's closure information line at (541) 672-0379 or visit it's web site at www.dfpa.net.
