LIGHTNING
CAUSED FIRES CONTROLLED
June 16, 2007
The thunderstorms that hit Douglas County between Tuesday night and Thursday morning left their mark with 1500 lightning strikes, but fire crews from several local and regional agencies had the last word.
Douglas Forest Protective Association aircraft spotted nine additional small fires over the weekend, bringing the total on DFPA protected lands to 36. Helicopters and fire crews quickly took care of business before any of the fires could build a head of steam. All fires have been trailed and mopped up and are in patrol status.
DFPA would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to everyone that made this suppression effort a success, including all private landowners, Douglas County fire departments, Douglas County Public Works, Oregon Department of Forestry, Coos Forest Protective Association, and Umpqua National Forest.
