OREGON FORESTLAND URBAN INTERFACE FIRE PROTECTION ACT Step by Step Instructions for Certification Form The following instructions are provided to assist homeowners fill out the Certification Form for Forestland-Urban Interface Properties. Circle Yes to all that apply to your home and property that meet the guidelines under the Act. More information on the Act can be found by clicking here. 1. Structure/Primary Fuel Break. The primary fuel break is the 30 foot perimeter surrounding your home and other structures greater than 500 square feet. This area should be maintained by keeping grass short, limbing up trees (3 to 1 ratio to ground vegetation), removing dead vegetation. If this fuel break is in good condition, circle YES. If this is a vacant lot, circle N/A. 2. Secondary Fuel Break. Only applies to homes with flammable roofing material, such as wood shakes. If your roof is composition, tile, metal, or made of another treated non flammable material, circle N/A. If you have a wood shake roof, add an additional 20 feet to the primary fuel break and circle YES when complete. 3. Driveway Fuel Break. For driveways longer than 150 feet. If less than 150 feet, circle N/A. Circle YES if your driveway will safely accommodate large fire engines. Grass and brush should be mowed and maintained 10 feet from the center of the driveway to either side. A vertical clearance of over hanging limbs should be a minimum of 13 feet high. 4. Chimney/Stove Pipe Clearance. For homes without a chimney or stove pipe, circle N/A. Circle YES if the clearance between overhanging vegetation and the chimney is more than 10 feet. 5. Dead Vegetation above Roof. Circle YES if you keep pine needles, leaves and other flammable dead vegetation off of your roof. 6. Flammable Material Under Decks. If you do not have a deck, circle N/A. Circle YES if all flammable materials have been removed from underneath decks. 7. Firewood and Lumber Piles. Circle N/A if you do not have firewood or lumber piles. Circle YES if your firewood or lumber piles are stored at least 20 feet away from structures during fire season, or are covered to prevent fire brands from collecting and burning these piles. The Tax Lot ID number can be found on your property tax statement. It is listed as the Map ID number and is actually the legal description of your property. |
